Colònia de Sant Pere (East)
Located within the municipality of Artá, Colonia de Sant Pere is a small fishing village in the northeast. It is one of the few villages on the coast of Mallorca that resists succumbing to tourism, which means that even in the high summer season the village will maintain an idyllic tranquillity. Colonia de Sant Pere has all the qualities you could wish for in a tranquil holiday retreat. It is characterised by a pretty traditional style harbour and a promenade lined with restaurants overlooking a sandy beach. This place is a world away from tourist life, so don't expect large scale hotels, commercial activities or nightlife, but just a few tourists enjoying the Mallorcan sunshine. Here visitors can experience the rather original Mallorca. Nearby is the hermitage of Betlem, where various excursions are highly recommended. This area is characterised by a stony and partly sloping coastline, which contrasts with the fine sandy beach of Colonia de Sant Pere. The village does not have many inhabitants, but offers a wide range of restaurants, all of which are located in the bay and are distinguished by their excellent cuisine. The beaches are simply spectacular and the nearest one is especially suitable for families, as an artificial breakwater makes bathing safer for children. Right next to it is the town's marina, where you can admire beautiful boats. Hikers and adventurers will enjoy this municipality very much, thanks to the wonderful scenery and the numerous excursions in the nearby mountains, where the remains of an ancient megalithic culture are also to be found.
